SUMMARY:Friday Bird Walk – Coal Oil Point Reserve
DESCRIPTION:Still figuring out how to tell a whimbrel from a long-billed curlew? Or how to distinguish an elegant from a royal tern? Or maybe you’d like to see a black-bellied plover in breeding plumage — with an actual black belly? Join SBAS for a bird walk to Coal Oil Point Reserve\, a 170-acre UC Natural Reserve that is one of the best places to view shorebirds (and terns) in the area. We’ll start along the shores of Devereaux Beach and work our way over to Sands Beach and the mouth of Devereaux Slough\, covering approximately 2 miles of flat terrain with one staircase/hill to descend and climb back up. Trip leader Rob Lindsay will help participants identify birds by sight and sound along the way and share insights into their life histories and ecology.  \nDirections: Take Camino Corto south to Del Playa Drive. Turn right and continue until you reach the dead end at Camino Majorca\, where parking is available on the street. \nCoal Oil Point meetup location https://maps.app.goo.gl/EAmsqYPjmQPb49S57 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nTrip Coordinator:\n\nKarl Weis\nContact Karl for information or questions
