SUMMARY:Botanic Garden - Bird Walk with Rebecca Coulter
DESCRIPTION:During this walk\, you may see several types of bird species that migrate to our region for the Winter. Our birders may see several types of sparrows\, including the White-crowned\, Golden-crowned\, Fox\, and the occasional White-throated sparrows. Other migrant species that may be spotted in the Garden this season include the Ruby-crowned Kinglet\, Hermit Thrush\, and Yellow-rumped and Townsend’s warblers. Both beginner and experienced birders will appreciate the diverse and beautiful birds that make their home around the Garden. \nWe encourage guests to wear comfortable clothing and shoes for walking around the garden\, and to bring binoculars. Although the Garden is dog-friendly\, participants are asked not to bring their dog(s) to this class. \nPricing:\nGarden Members: $25\nGeneral Public: $35 \nAbout Rebecca:\nRebecca Coulter has been birding in the Santa Barbara region for over 20 years. DESCRIPTION:Farren Road is at the very western edge of Goleta. It is a road that provides access along a ridge that is between Tecolote Canyon and Eagle Canyon. The habitat is varied\, thus providing a diverse list of avian species\, from sparrows to raptors. SUMMARY:Bird Walk – Birds & Brunch – More Mesa
DESCRIPTION:Join SBAS board member and local wildlife biologist Ian Jackson on a bird walk exploring the diverse habitats of More Mesa\, a beautiful coastal open space between Santa Barbara and Goleta. We’ll cover approximately 3 miles over mostly flat terrain (with a few steep hills to climb/descend) through riparian woodland\, grassland\, oak woodland\, and coastal scrub habitats. Ian will help participants identify birds by sight and sound while sharing insights into their ecology and life histories. If we’re lucky\, we’ll spot some locally uncommon species such as the chestnut-backed chickadee and the blue grosbeak! \nThe walk will be followed by an optional brunch at Brass Bird Coffee and Kitchen on upper State Street\, where folks can connect\, talk birds\, discuss more ways to get involved with Santa Barbara Audubon\, or just enjoy a chocolate croissant with good company. \nNo sign-up necessary. \nSunday\, May 7\, 2026 ~ 9:00 am – 11:00 am \nDirections \nTake Patterson Avenue south and continue as the road bends to the left and becomes Shoreline Drive. We’ll stroll the coastal bluffs\, wander through the oak woodlands\, and make our way down to the riparian habitats of Mesa and Arroyo Burro creeks\, covering approximately 2 miles of mostly flat terrain with one hill to descend and climb back up.
