SUMMARY:Gaviota State Park Hike with Siena
DESCRIPTION:Looking to get outside this weekend? A guided hike in Gaviota State Park is the perfect chance! \nJoin us this Sunday\, April 19th\, from 1 pm – 4 pm. We will head up the Ortega Trail\, then take the Woodland Trail\, and return on the Yucca Trail to complete a 3.2-mile loop. We will venture through the Gaviota Coast’s chaparral landscape and witness stunning mountain and ocean views. Bring plenty of water and a snack. \nTo get to the trailhead from Santa Barbara\, take Highway 101 north to the State Route 1 exit for Lompoc. From the exit\, turn left and cross over the freeway and continue west. Look for the first road on your left\, San Julian Road\, and follow it back towards the freeway. The road passes Vista de Las Cruces School. Park at the end of the road near the gate for the trails.\nDistance: 3.2 miles\nDifficulty: Moderate \nTrail Map: https://santabarbaratrails.org/maps/gaviota/gaviota-state-park-2024.pdf \nTrailhead: 9467 San Julian Rd\, Gaviota\, CA 93117 — Drive past the school and meet at the gate at the end of the road. \nThe group will meet at the trailhead at 1:00 PM to ensure a prompt start. Please be punctual to respect everyone’s time. Please dress appropriately with hiking boots/shoes and comfortable clothes meant to get sweaty and possibly wet. We recommend a 1-3L water bladder in a backpack\, depending upon trail difficulty\, so that your hands are free to cross water or scramble up/down rocks. \nNote: Rain or low attendance cancels the hike. \nGroup organizers assume no liability; hike at your own risk. By participating in this hike\, you agree to assume all risks and liability related to or resulting from this activity. Neither the group’s leaders nor any third party will be held liable for any injury\, loss\, or damage that may occur. Participation is based on an “at will” basis. \nWe’re lucky to have access to such stunning trails\, but keeping them safe and accessible takes effort. Consider supporting the Santa Barbara County Trails Council by volunteering or becoming a member:\nJoin the SB Trails Council \nOr contribute to their Trail fund:\nDonate to the Trail Fund \nYour support helps maintain and protect the beautiful outdoor spaces we love.

SUMMARY:Arroyo Hondo Preserve - Nature Hike
DESCRIPTION:Free docent-led nature hikes are offered at 10:00 am on Saturdays of open weekends. Visitors can also hike on their own on these days. Hikes are free of charge; however\, donations to support Arroyo Hondo Preserve and the Land Trust for Santa Barbara County are gratefully accepted. Everyone is welcome to visit the Preserve to hike\, picnic\, paint\, volunteer\, or research\, but advance reservations are required. \nOnline reservations can be made here: https://www.sblandtrust.org/arroyo-hondo-preserve-reservations/ \nThe Arroyo Hondo Preserve is located west of Santa Barbara between Refugio State Beach and Gaviota State Park. The preserve is tucked into a magnificent canyon with winding trails\, creeks\, shady trees\, and rewarding views. All 910 acres of Arroyo Hondo are protected forever and managed by the Land Trust. Due to the sensitivity of the canyon’s resources\, dogs\, mountain bikes\, horses\, hunting\, fishing\, and campfires are not allowed. \nDirections to the Preserve: Traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 101\, the Preserve is about a 30-minute drive from downtown Santa Barbara. Approximately 4 miles past Refugio State Beach\, you will see a blue “Rest Area in 7 miles” sign followed closely by a yellow warning sign about falling rocks. The entrance to Arroyo Hondo is in 1/2 mile and will be visible on the right at the bottom of the hill. Make a right-hand turn into the driveway. Come down the driveway\, cross the bridge on the right\, and park near the barn. \nBook a Reservation\nVisitors are welcome to join a 10 a.m. guided tour on Saturday or Sunday\, the first and third full weekend of every month! Free online reservations are required in advance; spaces are limited. \nKnowledgeable docents will lead you on a 2-hour natural history tour along Arroyo Hondo Creek. Learn about the plants and animals of the canyon as well as the fire and flood cycles that help keep the Preserve wild. View the historic Ortega Adobe\, built in 1842\, and once used as a stagecoach stop on the route between Lompoc and Santa Barbara.\nTours are approximately 1.5 miles over mostly flat terrain\, including dirt\, gravel\, sand\, and boards crossing the creek. Free parking\, bathrooms\, and water are available. To protect the Preserve’s natural habitat\, dogs are not allowed. \nTo make your weekend tour reservation\, select an open date on the calendar. You will receive a confirmation email with visit details. Reservations open one month in advance.\nGuided tours for community groups of 10 or more are available on a limited basis\, weekdays and weekends. To learn more about scheduling\, please contact Leslie Chan at lchan@sblandtrust.org. \nEnvironmental Education field trips are offered to schools for free— our calendar is full through the end of the 2025/2026 school year\, but please contact Education Coordinator Sally Isaacson at volunteer@sblandtrust.org to learn more about scheduling a future trip. \n

SUMMARY:Arroyo Hondo Preserve - Nature Hike
DESCRIPTION:Free docent-led nature hikes are offered at 10:00 am on Sundays of open weekends. View the historic Ortega Adobe\, built in 1842\, and once used as a stagecoach stop on the route between Lompoc and Santa Barbara. Tours are approximately 1.5 miles over mostly flat terrain\, including dirt\, gravel\, sand\, and boards crossing the creek. \n
