DESCRIPTION:Join the Land Trust for Santa Barbara County on a casual walk through monarch butterfly habitat! \nWestern monarch butterflies come to Ellwood Mesa\, Goleta\, and other butterfly groves in coastal California\, where they spend the winter between November and February each year. Learn about their life’s journey while enjoying beautiful coastal and mountain views. After visiting the eucalyptus grove\, we’ll follow the footpaths through the Ellwood Mesa and learn about the coastal grasslands while keeping our eyes peeled for birds and other wildlife. \nWe’ll be walking on level to slightly hilly terrain. Total walking mileage for this event is 2-3 miles. No bathrooms or water are available on site. Street parking is available on Coronado Drive. SUMMARY:Santa Barbara Riviera Walk!
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Land Trust for Santa Barbara County on Wednesday\, March 4th\, 2026 from 9:00am – 11:30am for a botanical and historical walk through one the city’s most iconic neighborhoods – The Riviera. This famous neighborhood that sits at a higher elevation is known for its architecture\, historic landmarks\, and stunning views of the city. \nParticipants will begin at Riviera Park\, before making their way towards other landmarks. The stroll will be approximately 3-miles on mostly paved roads. We will be walking up stone steps (~160 steps) and on some dirt paseos\, so please wear appropriate footwear. There is some elevation gain as this neighborhood is uphill. The walk is a combination of shaded and exposed. Bathrooms and parking are available at the meeting location. Please bring a personal supply of water. There are public bathrooms and water at the top of Franceschi Park\, one of our stops. \nGet outside with us! Bathroom access is available at the meeting location. No water is available; please bring your own supply of water. No dogs allowed at the preserve. \nThe preserve is private property and is only accessible through guided public programs. Visitors must follow the preserve guidelines at all times. \nIn 2023\, the Land Trust executed a $15 million conservation easement over Dangermond Preserve with funding from the Vandenberg Space Force base. The trail is on even\, flat terrain and has high sun/wind exposure. Weather can be variable\, so dress in layers and be prepared for a range of conditions\, including sun\, rain\, cold\, and high winds\, throughout the day. Bathroom access is available at the meeting location. No water is available; please bring your own supply of water.
