SUMMARY:New Year's Day Hike and Tai Chi - Duca Family Bench
DESCRIPTION:We’ll do some stretching at the trailhead before heading up at 2:40. \n \nAt Duca Family Bench\, I’ll lead some Tai Chi to bring in the New Year. My Tai Chi involves basic moves that feel good. No experience necessary and you don’t need to join in if you don’t want to. \n \nThere is no shade and it’s a grind up into the Los Padres National Forest. The bonus is that it’s all downhill on the way back. This is an intermediate hike and we should get some sunset views on the way down. I recommend hiking poles to get a full body workout. \n \nSince this is an out and back hike\, you can stop on the way somewhere if the trail is too much for you. If people want to go out for a drink or meal afterwards\, I’m game. I like Sushi Teri in Carp: \n \nhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/giVz9fT4o3MgiPMU6 \n \nDistance – 6+ mi \nAscent – 1\,200ft \nWater crossings – NO \nRock scrambling – NO \nBush whacking – NO \nMaximum Grade – >5% \n \nTrailhead: We will meet in front of Carpenteria High School at the Franklin Trail Trailhead \nhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/YM2iwfBbWZDZYU3s7 \n \nAlltrails link: \nhttps://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/franklin-trail \n \nThe Hike Leader is Scott Kipp. If you plan to attend please accept on Meetup. If you want to carpool\, Scott can be reached via text at 805-888-9752. \n \nAbout SB County Hikers series \nThese hikes are meant for those with some hiking experience and moderate athletic condition. The pace varies and larger groups usually split\, but we will re-group at intersections and stick together where the path is ‘iffy’. Please dress appropriately with hiking boots/shoes and comfortable clothes meant to get sweaty and possible wet. \n \nBring a water resistant jacket for rain/gloom or just cold air which is frequent at altitude. We recommend 1-3L water bladder in a day/backpack depending upon trail difficulty so that your hands are free and you can get in a good rhythm while hiking. I recommend long sleeves and pants to prevent scratches\, poison oak and ticks. \n \nWe will stop at the top\, and do some Tai Chi and sip a cup of tea or beverage of your choice. Feel free to bring a snack to share. \nGroup organizers assume no liability; hike at your own risk. By being a member of this group\, you hereby agree to assume all risks and liability related to or resulting from any group functions. You agree that you nor any third party will hold any of the group’s leaders liable for any injury\, loss\, or damage to your own self or property arising directly or as a consequence of a group activity. You also agree that your membership of this group is based on an “at will” basis.

SUMMARY:Carpenteria to Mondo's Beach - CMT Stage 15-3 Hike
DESCRIPTION:We’ll continue my journey down the coast on the California Missions Trail and you’re invited to come along. This will be a long\, 12-mile stretch\, and we will have considerable beach walking at low tide. Ensure you have comfortable shoes since we will be on our feet for most of the 6+ hours. We will start in Carpenteria\, where we stopped last Saturday\, and hike to Mondo’s Beach. \n \nMEET: \nWe will meet at Mondo’s beach at 11:50 am since there is free parking at this surf spot. Then we will carpool back to Carpenteria at 12:00 and start hiking back to the cars we leave behind. Please be punctual. \nWe will meet at on the edge of the road at the west end of Mondo’s beach\, where Makos Surf Camp meets. The exact location on Google Maps is here: \nhttps://goo.gl/maps/KvQoszxDnVkPPa5M7 \n \nAfter carpooling to downtown Carp\, we’ll hike to the beach and walk along a lovely\, bluff-top trail to the seal sanctuary and the Carpenteria Bluffs Nature Preserve. This stretch of the walk is very beautiful and we’ll stay away from the highway until we get to Rincon Point. Since it will be low tide\, we should be able to walk on the beach most of the time\, but we might need to walk on the bike path or railroad tracks for short stretches. \nThe miles will rack up as we pass La Conchita\, Rincon Island\, Oil Piers Beach\, Hobson Beach\, Rincon Parkway (where all the RVs are)\, Faria Beach and finally Mondo’s Beach. We’ll try to keep a good pace of about 3 mph for hours\, but we will slow down when walking on the sandy beaches. \n \nOnly come if you can stay on your feet for 6 hours with minimal stops. If you need to drop out\, you can call a ride or a rideshare. Some people had trouble with Uber last week\, so make sure you’re app works if you need it. \nAt the end of the hike\, we’ll drive to Carpenteria and eat delicious Thai food at the Siam Elephant. \nhttps://goo.gl/maps/ktvULKByTbq2Wjr89 \n \nBRING: \nMinimum of two liters of water and snacks to have along the way. There will be few places to get water and minimal bathrooms on this route. The weather is predicted to be in the 50s and 60s and breezy on the beach\, so dress in layers and be prepared. No pets\, please. \n \nSunset: 7:20 pm \n \nDid you see this webinar for the new guidebook called The California Missions Trail (CMT)? \nhttps://youtu.be/07Mu5M9WAmA \n \nThe SB County Trails Council\, which hosts this Meetup Group\, had a webinar with the author Sandy Brown. The CMT is 802 miles long and goes to all 21 Missions from San Diego to Sonoma. The trail is so appealing to me that I’m going to start section hiking it and I’m inviting others to come along. \n \nIf you know more about the guidebook for the California Missions Trail go here: \nhttps://sbtrails.org/california-missions-trail-guidebook-launch/ \n \nThe guidebook is also available at these locations: \n \nSanta Barbara Mission Giftshop \nSanta Barbara Historical Museum \nLa Purisma HSP Giftshop \nVentura Mission Giftshop \nChaucers Book Store \nREI CoOp

SUMMARY:Montecito to Carpinteria - CMT Stage 15-2 Hike
DESCRIPTION:Stage 15-2 is a hike from Montecito to Carpinteria. This hike is 8-10 miles long\, depending on the path we take. Stage 15-3 will be from Carpinteria to Mondo’s beach and will be in April. \n \nWe’ll meet in front of the closed Four Seasons at 2:00 and walk along the beach to Eucalyptus Lane where we will go inland until we reach Summerland. From Summerland\, we’ll walk along the beach to Loon Point and then walk on Padaro Lane to Santa Claus Beach. Then we’ll walk along the beach and railroad tracks to the Carpinteria Salt Marsh State Park. Then we’ll walk up Linden Avenue to have dinner at Sushi Teri. \n \nDinner at Sushi Teri is optional. I would like to make a reservation in advance\, so let me know if you want to go in the comments section. There is parking behind Sushi Teri and I will drive down there before the hike so I can take 4 passengers back to Montecito afterward. I will need to get a ride to Montecito with someone before the hike. Let’s work this out in the comments section. \n \nWe’ll walk on sand and over rocks on the beach\, so wear appropriate shoes or boots. This will not be low tide so we will not be able to walk the whole way on the beach. \n \nThis hike aims to introduce people to new places\, make new friends\, and enjoy the outdoors together. If this is not your purpose\, please find another hike. There will be no sweep on this hike and you are expected to stay with the group. Please assess your ability honestly before committing to this adventure where you will be on your feet for multiple hours. \n \nBRING: \nMinimum of one liter of water and snacks if desired. There will be places to get water and minimal bathrooms on this route. The weather is predicted to be in the 50s and 60s\, so dress in layers and be prepared. \n \nMEET: \nMeet on the sidewalk overlooking the beach in front of the Four Seasons at 1260 Channel Islands Drive at 2:00pm. We will leave promptly\, so be there 10 minutes early. \n \nSunset: 7:15pm \n \nDid you see this webinar for the new guidebook called The California Missions Trail (CMT)? \nhttps://youtu.be/07Mu5M9WAmA \n \nThe SB County Trails Council\, which hosts this Meetup Group\, had a webinar with the author Sandy Brown.
