SUMMARY:More Mesa Nature Hike with Wayne Ferren
DESCRIPTION:The walks will last 2 – 3 hours. We’ll be observing plants\, animals\, and their habitats. Applicable land-use policies designed to protect these important resources will be explained. And we’ll tell you about the current effort to acquire and conserve the 265 acres of the property that remains in private ownership. \nWe’ll meet on Shoreline Drive\, where there’s vehicle parking available on the road shoulder. \nDirections: Take Patterson Avenue south.  After crossing the bike path and bridge over Atascadero Creek\, the road bends to the left and becomes Shoreline Drive.  You’ll see horse stables and a riding ring on your left.  Just past the driveway/entrance to the stables\, there’s a broad road shoulder that can accommodate parking for several vehicles.  That’s where we’ll meet. \nWe encourage you to bring water and binoculars if you have them. Trails can get muddy during and following rainy weather\, so keep that in mind when choosing footwear. The terrain is very friendly and doesn’t require much physical exertion. \nGroup size is limited to 15 participants. \nIf you would like to attend\, please email mmpc@moremesa.org to RSPV. \nWe hope to see you on the trail!

SUMMARY:5-Peaks Grass Mountain Hike with Ella
DESCRIPTION:We will follow a moderately steep trail up to the ridgeline\, then tackle a challenging\, strenuous climb to the summit\, where we will be rewarded with commanding views of the surrounding San Rafael Wilderness. We hope to catch the tail end of the spring wildflower bloom. \nSPECIAL THANKS to Midland School senior students\, who\, at the beginning of April\, carried out trail repairs and brushed back grasses on the Maple Canyon Trail\, Redrock Springs Trail\, and the High Country Loop during their Spring Break week. \nNOTE: This area was severely damaged in the Lake Fire in 2024. It has made an amazing recovery. With donations from community members and a grant from the Santa Barbara Foundation\, the Santa Barbara County Trails Council funded the repairs across the 10-mile-long trail network. \nDetails: \n\nDistance ~5mi\nAscent – 2400ft\nRock scrambling – SOME\nAll Trails Map: Grass Mountain Trail\n\nTrailhead: Lovers Loop Trailhead ( aka Grass Mountain Trailhead)\n1.7 miles past the entrance to Midland School at 5100 Figueroa Mountain Rd\, Santa Ynez\, CA 93460. We will meet at the trailhead kiosk. 34.74182\, -120.06195 \nDirections:\nDrive to Los Olivos\, CA. At the intersection of Hwy 154 and Figueroa Mountain Rd\, turn onto Figueroa Mountain Rd and drive about 7 miles to the main trailhead for the Midland School Trails. Park on the\nside of the road. \nThe group will meet at the Grass Mountain Trailhead at 8:15 AM to ensure a prompt 8:30 AM start. Please be punctual to respect everyone’s time. \nPlease dress appropriately with hiking boots/shoes and comfortable clothes meant to get sweaty and possibly wet. Depending on trail difficulty\, we recommend carrying 2-3L of water in a backpack so your hands are free to cross water or scramble up/down rocks. \nNote: Rain or low attendance cancels the hike. \nGroup organizers assume no liability; hike at your own risk. By participating in this hike\, you agree to assume all risks and liability related to or resulting from this activity. Neither the group’s leaders nor any third party will be held liable for any injury\, loss\, or damage. Participation is based on an “at will” basis. \nWe’re lucky to have access to such stunning trails\, but keeping them safe and accessible takes effort. Consider supporting the Santa Barbara County Trails Council by volunteering or becoming a member:\nJoin the SB Trails Council \nOr contribute to their Midland School Trail fund:\nDonate to the Trail Fund \nYour support helps maintain and protect the beautiful outdoor spaces we love.
