SUMMARY:You’re Invited to Hike with 3rd District County Supervisor Joan Hartmann!
DESCRIPTION:We will meet at the Skofield Park at 9am. From Skofield Park we will walk over to the Rattlesnake Canyon Wilderness to begin our hike. The route provides some shade near the bottom of the trail\, but is exposed near the top. As you gain altitude and leave the streamside riparian habitat expect to see views of Santa Barbara\, the Pacific Ocean\, and the Channel Islands. \nOur destination is Tin Can Meadow\, which is named after a homestead cabin that burned down in 1925. \nYou can learn more about Supervisor Hartmann’s vision for the future of recreation in Santa Barbara County and how you can become an open-space\, trails\, and parks advocate in our County. \nWHERE: 1810 Las Canoas Rd.\, Santa Barbara\, CA \nWHEN: Sunday\, September 9th from 9am to 12pm (event will be postponed in the event of rain) \nRSVP: https://goo.gl/forms/lYJX7jMiKPuUHn4d2 \nSPONSORS: \n Office of 3rd District Santa Barbara County Supervisor Joan Hartmann\n Healthy People Healthy Trails\n Santa Barbara County Trail Council \nPlease bring plenty of drinking water\, snacks\, and/or a bagged lunch\, sunscreen\, a hat and appropriate shoes. Please note there are restrooms in Skofield Park\, but not at the trailhead or on the trail. \nDIRECTIONS: The trail starts at the creek near Skofield Park. From Santa Barbara\, take Foothill Road (Hwy 192) and turn north on Mission Canyon Road. Take the fork toward the Santa Barbara Botanical Gardens. Take a sharp turn right on Las Canoas for 1-1/2 miles and park in Skofield Park. \nADDITIONAL INFORMATION: \n Difficulty Rating: Moderate\n Distance: 5 Miles out and back\n Grade: 12% average\, 26% max\n Elevation Gain: 1000 feet\n Surface: Packed earth\n Average Width: 3 – 5 feet\n Shade: Yes at bottom of trail\n Obstacles: Uneven surface\n Restrictions: Dogs on leash\, no bikes
