Looking for a new hike in the dunes? Join us on May 23rd on an adventure to “Little Coreopsis Hill”! This is a strenuous hike focused on the areas of the giant coreopsis and other coastal dune plants. Come explore this less-visited area and see gorgeous views of our dune’s freshwater lakes! May 23, 2026, at 9 am | Meeting at Oso Flaco Lake Parking Lot This hike is about 1 hour long and starts at 9:30 AM. We will view Giant Coreopsis, Dune Wallflower, Crisp Dune Mint, and more. Be prepared to climb later dunes for this short yet challenging hike! Dunes Center docent Ray Segovia will share powerful stories and history about the people, places, and conservation efforts that have helped safeguard this landscape for future generations. Restrooms are available at the Oso Flaco Lake State Park lot, which is another ¾ miles west of Beigle Road at the end of Oso Flaco Lake Road (there are no restrooms along the hike route). Note: Pets, smoking or tobacco products, or alcohol are not allowed on the Refuge, including the parking area, or other State Parks and Private properties accessed during the hike. Pets may not be left in cars in the parking areas.
