Bird Walk – Birds & Brunch – More Mesa

Description

Join SBAS board member and local wildlife biologist Ian Jackson on a bird walk exploring the diverse habitats of More Mesa, a beautiful coastal open space between Santa Barbara and Goleta. We’ll cover approximately 3 miles over mostly flat terrain (with a few steep hills to climb/descend) through riparian woodland, grassland, oak woodland, and coastal scrub habitats. Ian will help participants identify birds by sight and sound while sharing insights into their ecology and life histories. If we’re lucky, we’ll spot some locally uncommon species such as the chestnut-backed chickadee and the blue grosbeak! The walk will be followed by an optional brunch at Brass Bird Coffee and Kitchen on upper State Street, where folks can connect, talk birds, discuss more ways to get involved with Santa Barbara Audubon, or just enjoy a chocolate croissant with good company. No sign-up necessary. Sunday, May 7, 2026 ~ 9:00 am – 11:00 am Directions Take Patterson Avenue south and continue as the road bends to the left and becomes Shoreline Drive. We’ll meet at the broad road shoulder just past the driveway/entrance to the horse stables on your left, where there is parking available for several vehicles. Other Information: Bring water & a snack Wear comfortable shoes Binoculars are a must (borrow ours if you need to) Spotting scopes are useful
