Cabrillo Ball Park Promotes Walking and Fitness

The popular public park, located at Cabrillo Boulevard and S. Milpas Street has received a major overhaul. Access to the park has been improved along with many other amenities including several multi-use grass turf areas and a walking path with views of the ocean. Hot off the presses are a set of six postcards showcasing paintings from Santa Ynez River and watershed. The front of the 6×8 postcards feature artwork from the River’s Journey Project developed by six artists calling themselves Rose Compass. The backside has a map showing trails to follow to get to the location where the paintings were made. Celebrate National ParkRx Day 2018

We making plans to celebrate National ParkRx Day on April 29th. This annual event promotes the growing movement of doctors prescribing outdoor activity in parks and nature to their patients to improve health. Additionally, National ParkRx Day encourages everyone to recognize that physical activity, even walking throughout your own city’s parks and trails, is an important part of being healthy. Healthy People Healthy Trails is a local version of ParkRx here in Santa Barbara County.

Speaking Out

On March 15th Jill Zachary and Mark Wilkinson took the Healthy People Healthy Trails story to Long Beach, CA for a presentation at the annual California Parks and Recreation Society Conference. They spoke to an audience that is well aware that walking and hiking through local parks promotes healthy lifestyles, increases environmental awareness and builds community support for parks and open-space protection.
